Boiler Service

Staying warm and comfortable during Chicago winters is easy with a functioning boiler. Boilers are closed vessels that heat fluid, ultimately turning the water into steam and pushes it throughout the home for heating purposes. Most boiler systems rely on a functioning thermostat to alert it when it’s time to begin heating the water to provide heat to the home. In the case that your home is no longer producing heat properly, consider calling us for a boiler repair in Chicago.

Types of Boilers

There are two main types of boilers, with the main difference between them revolving around which side of the boiler tube contains either the combustion gases or the boiler water.

  • Firetube boilers: In this type of boiler, combustion gases pass through the boiler tubes, transferring heat between the tubes and the outer shell. From there, the heat is transferred through the walls via thermal conduction.
  • Watertube boilers: In this type of boiler, water from the boiler passes through the tubes while the exhaust gases remain in the shell side and passes over the surfaces of the tube. Generally speaking, these types of boilers are efficient and often used in process industries.
  • Combi boilers: This type of boiler combines both water heaters and central heating systems into one unit. This eliminates the need for an external water tank.

Common Boiler Problems

Just like any other part of your HVAC system, boilers need TLC to function at maximum capacity. Many boiler-related problems develop after long periods of idleness, but there are further problems that could develop as well.

  • Low boiler pressure: Low boiler pressure is typically a nod to a malfunctioning central heating system. As the first step to boiler repair in Chicago, our team will look for leaks. If none are found, we will re-pressurize your boiler so it can work properly again.
  • Banging or whistling noises: Noisy boilers are typically the result of air in the system, low water pressure, or a faulty pump.
  • Heat or hot water occurring intermittently: Broken diaphragms and airlocks, faulty valves or a broken thermostat may cause you to receive heat or hot water on intermittent occasions. Our team will be able to pinpoint the problem to help your boiler run smoothly once again.
