Reliable Heat Pump Repair Services in Chicago

Heat pumps are one of the most energy-efficient ways to maintain the temperature in your home. It works by transferring heat. So, when it’s hot in the summer, it pushes the warm air out. During the cold months, it brings heat into your home.

Heat pump systems are great, but when they stop working, your home can quickly become uncomfortable and, at times, dangerous.

3 Most Common Heat Pump Problems

Any number of things can go wrong with a heating and cooling system, but some problems are  more frequent than others. Here are three of the most commonly reported heat pump issues.

Blowing Cold on Heat

When the system is set to heat mode but blowing cold air, it might be low on refrigerant charge. Alternatively, it could be a valve or compressor issue, or a coil may be clogged.

Frozen

During the winter, heat pumps can freeze for a few reasons. The defrost cycle may not be working properly or the system might be low on refrigerant charge. The outdoor unit may be blocked, water may be dripping and freezing, or the fan may not be working.

In summer, issues can be due to the inner coil or line leading to the compressor freezing. The unit can also freeze if there is insufficient refrigerant or the air filter is clogged.

Never Stops Running

If your heat pump runs nonstop, it may be due to a frozen coil, compressor issue, refrigerant leakage, or a dirty filter or coil.

One of the best ways to prevent issues is to have your system regularly maintained and to change your air filters monthly.
